Olympic-mania is
beginning to crescendo to fever pitch levels.
Excitement and anticipation are in the air as
the world prepared to screech to a halt for 17
days, united and enraptured while the world’s
best athletes compete at the highest level of
sport. For qualifying athletes around the world,
including Trek’s sponsored cyclists, competing
at the Olympics is the honor and opportunity of
a lifetime. Such a momentous occasion deserves
special recognition. Fittingly, at the behest of
Trek’s Team Liaison
Ben Coates, the graphic designers and
painters in
Project One
cooked up a fleet of custom-painted
Madone 6.9s,
TTX 9.9 SSLs,
and
Elite 9.9 SSLs
to give our athletes
something magical to ride as they go for the
gold.
Here’s a list of Trek athletes going for the

| Building
Lance's Leadville Machine |

It is not well known but I
started working at Trek as a professional
mountain bike mechanic for one of the race
teams, last week I got back to my roots.
As you all know Lance Armstrong is racing the
Leadville 100 mountain bike race this week.
Well, he needed a new bike and I was tasked with
making that happen. A couple of days later a
brand new Trek 9.9 Top Fuel showed up at my
door; all the parts in boxes, just like the good
old days. It isn't every day that you get to
build a bike that only 10 or so people have
ridden and it isn't every day that you build a
bike for Lance, this bike was special!

Lance to race Leadville 100

| Trek's man on the ground Ben Coates just
delivered a
2009 Trek Top Fuel
to Lance for the upcoming
Leadville 100
race. Lance has a hardtail with him as well but
so far he's leaning towards racing the Top Fuel.
Ben's scale weighed Lance's bike at 22.78lbs. |

Schnell Wins Xc and Downhill Events at the
Downieville Classic in Downieville,
California
|

Ross Schnell Trek
Volkswagon Race Team
|
Heralded as the unofficial ‘All Mountain
World Championships’, the Downieville Classic in
Downieville, California has become a much talked
about event. Racers compete on the same bike for
both the 29 mile XC point-to-point race as well
as the epic 17 mile DH course.
Ross Schnell (Trek-Volkswagon) won both the
XC and the DH event, therefore solidly claiming
the overall title. Not only did Schnell win both
events, he set a course record in each
discipline. Ross won pedaling his Trek Remedy 9
with a RockShox Lyrik Solo Air suspension fork
and RockShox Monarch 4.2 rear shock.

Jeremiah Bishop wore a face
of bewilderment and agitation as his

the finish line of Breckenridge, Colorado’s
Firecracker 50 on Friday. Bishop, 32, had no
idea he’d just won the race and taken the
marathon national championship, his first U.S.

Bontrager
are simply under rated.
We found that out a few months ago when we
decided to keep our
Lynskey Custom
bike as American as we could and used
Bontrager’s XXX-Lite bars, stem, seat post and
fork…
Bontrager have succeeded in doing the bling
thing but with solid, serviceable everyday

| Tour Favorites Left
Out Of Race |

(From Up
The Road. Posted by Ben Coates on Mar 21,
2008 11:09:04 AM)
Unfortunately you will not see any of
these guys at this year's Tour de France.
Although we were all expecting this, the ASO
officially left Astana off the invite list
to the 2008 Tour de France. This means that
3 of the heavy favorites, not to mention the
winninngest Tour Director of all time will
not be attending this year's Tour de France.
If you ask me the reason that the ASO is
holding steadfast to does not hold water. I
am not sure what there real reason is but I
don't think it is what is being publicly
declared.
The team has refocused on new races and
goals. You can bet that the Olympic games
and the Vuelta are going to be dominated by
Astana. If I had any money to bet, I would
put it all on a Trek bike helping to obtain
a gold medal and a couple of podium spots in
Spain.
