Armstrong Wins Leadville 100,
Sets Course Record Trek's Top Fuel Dominated
The Race With
5 Of The Top 7 Finishes.
LET THE DOMINATION CONTINUE!!
The Leadville 100 mile
mountain bike is known for being a long, grueling event, and
Lance won it in style on Saturday. He road the last 60 miles
solo. He finished 30 minutes ahead of his closest competitor. He
broke the course record by more than 15 minutes with a finishing
time of 6:28:50. And he did all this riding on a nearly flat
rear tire for the final miles of the race.
The 6 time
champion of this race, Dave Wiens, finished 2nd, and
Matt Shriver, who set a strong opening tempo for Lance,
finished 3rd. Trek’s very own Travis Brown also competed
and finished 7th, nearly an hour back from Lance’s time.
Lance Armstrong raced his
Top Fuel 9.9 SSL to Leadville 100 victory on Saturday,
rewriting the record books in the process by shattering the
course’s previous best time by more than 15 minutes. His sights
set on breaking the record from the outset, the seven-time Tour
de France Champion joined an elite group of riders in setting a
brutal early pace; it was a pace that six-time winner Dave Wiens
described as the fastest he’s ever seen. As the leaders started
up the 10-mile Columbine climb, gaining roughly 3,000 feet of
elevation before topping out at nearly 12,500 feet, Armstrong
simply rode away from the pack. For the next 60 miles Armstrong
rode alone, eventually finishing almost 30 minutes ahead of
second place finisher, Dave Wiens. Lance rides it out on a flat tire.

finishes, including overall victory.
